The SBCS Cross Country team continues to shine on the course, and the hot weather doesn’t seem to faze the Ravens, as SBCS finished with four medalists on another hot and humid race day. Catherine Peitsch, Priscilla Whorton, Cecily Haigh, and Josh Campbell led the Ravens and earned medals with top 10 finishes in their respective races.

In the 7th grade girls race, Catherine Peitsch was the top finisher for the Lady Ravens, placing 8th with an 18:49. Anna Buhman-Wiggs ran a 21:00 to earn 18th place, while Cosette Kemnitz finished 44th with a time of 21:30.

The 8th grade girls team once again competed well. Led by Priscilla Whorton (8th; 16:34) and Cecily Haigh (10th; 16:47), the Ravens placed two runners inside the top 10 for the first time. Clare Harris and Neah Servaes were not far behind the leaders, as they finished 14th and 15th in 18:13 and 18:19, respectively. Bethany Urban ran an 18:53 (18th), while Nora Colwell ran a 20:59 (21st).

On the boys side, Josh Campbell paced the Ravens. Josh earned a 9th place medal by running a 15:47. Kepha West finished in 30th place with a 19:07. Jamie Wolf ran a 16:54 for 27th place in the 8th grade boys race.

The SBCS Cross Country team impressed their spectators, their coach, and maybe even themselves in their first-ever cross country meet at Wyandotte County Park on Thursday afternoon. The Ravens covered a tough two-mile course in good time on a blazing hot September day. With temperatures in the 90s and a heat index over 100 degrees, the SBCS runners stayed focused and competed well. The Bobcat Invitational featured over 1,400 runners in eight races.

In the 7th grade girls race, Catherine Peitsch led the way for the Ravens, breaking into the top 30 with a time of 19:10 in 29th place! Cosette Kemnitz finished next for the Lady Ravens in 22:07 (62nd), while Anna Buhman-Wiggs crossed the finish line in 22:47 (68th).

Two 7th grade boys burst onto the scene for SBCS with Josh Campbell running a 17:10 to finish in 47th place, while Kepha West crossed the finish line in 18:26 for 70th place. The Raven boys ran well in a large pack of runners for most of the race.

For the 8th grade girls, St. Benedict was well-represented. Having more than five runners allowed for the Lady Ravens to compete as a team. The Lady Ravens finished in 10th Place with a total team score of 222. Priscilla Whorton ran the best time of the day for the Lady Ravens with a 16:50. Her 28th place finish was also the best of the day for SBCS! Cecily Haigh ran a 17:21 to finish in 32nd place. Also running well for the Ravens was Clare Harris, with a time 18:13 (44th). Neah Servaes broke the 20 minute mark, finishing in 19:59 (66th), while Nora Colwell (20:46, 81st) and Bethany Urban (20:48, 82nd) rounded out the Lady Raven runners.

Jamie Wolf was the lone 8th grade boy running for the Ravens. Jamie ran a 16:39 for a 101st place finish in the massive 8th grade race. His time was the overall fastest time for any St. Benedict runner at the meet.

Congratulations to the Ravens for an outstanding opening meet! Catch the Ravens on the course again on Monday, September 16, at Jackson Heights! Good luck to our Running Ravens!
